i've done an essay about ”critical period hypothesis ” for one of my cource this semester. It's a idea that when human being pass a certain age, we are nearly impossible to acquire native-like pronuciation in a second language. Apparently it happens around 12-13 years old. and If you want to have a native accent , you would better to start learning before 6 years old !! It was quite shocking fact and I wish I knew this when I was little~~~ HAHAHA
Anyway, I really want to get native- llke accent in English. However, I've learnt in another lecture that accents are one of our identity! As long as it's understandable, I would believe it's doesn't matter. Accents can be different fron one country or clture to another. I had felt upset when I couldn't pronunce wors propaly before I realized this. Now i can have more confident in speaking English. I'll keep trying to get improved tho !! Keep Practicing !!
Very interesting. Yes, it's one hypothesis, but the other part is true too - your accent is part of your identity and as long as you are understandable, it doesn't really matter what accent you have! Good luck with your exams!
